An Afternoon in the Garden

We planted some sunflowers in our garden this year and many a day was spent looking out to see how much they have grown. After weeks of watching the flowers grow we were surprised to realize that what we had planted were sunflowers aptly named the "Russian Mammoth". These sunflowers grow p to 3 meters and the flower can be as big as 14 inches. Here is a close up of the one of the larger flowers.

I spent some time this afternoon on the deck and discovered a bee feeding from this succulent cactus sitting on the porch. This gave me the opportunity to get some great close up shots.
